Redwood City community members banded together Monday night to wrap more than 700 toys in just under two hours at Red Morton Community Center.

Deputies and elected officials joined many volunteers who included kids in preparing gifts for children in need this holiday season, according to the Redwood City/San Mateo County Toy and Book Drive Facebook page, where plenty of photos and videos of the event are posted.

Joining the wrapping party were Mayor Ian Bain, Councilmember Janet Borgens, Police Chief Gary Kirby, Fire Chief Stan Maupin, San Mateo County Coroner Robert Foucrault, Capt. Dan Mulholland and Capt. John Spicer, according to the charitable community organization.

Nearly 70 businesses, community centers and schools are hosted donation barrels accepting toys and books to support a countywide program benefiting low-income families in San Mateo County.

The gifts are delivered on three nights to local families in need by volunteers from police, fire, the sheriff’s department and their families. Pick-up parties are also held to allow families to fetch the toys.
