Bay Area jolted by earthquake early Thursday

Redwood City residents were awakened early Thursday after a brief but jolting earthquake struck in the East Bay.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 struck at 2:39 a.m. about 3 kilometers from Berkeley and was more than 7 miles deep, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No significant damage or injuries have been reported as a result of the quake.
