A Redwood City man under the influence of methamphetamines on New Year’s Eve wanted a Cucumber from Safeway.

A warning for those who choose to read on: the nutritious vegetable was not meant to be used for a salad.

Kevin Adkins, 34, will serve 90 days in jail after pleading no contest Wednesday to a number of charges including indecent exposure and offering a sexual bribe to an officer in connection with a Dec. 31 incident in which he exposed himself to two people, asking one of the victims for a ride to the Safeway so he could buy a cucumber to use as a dildo, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.

The incident unfolded about 7:30 p.m. in Redwood City, when Adkins went up to a victim in a car who had just delivered pizza. Adkins asked the victim for a ride to the Safeway store while his pants were down and his genitals were exposed. Naturally, the victim declined, but Adkins got into the car holding a metal object, prosecutors said. The victim reportedly exited his car with the keys and called 911. Meanwhile, Adkins slid into the driver seat, but then exited the car and walked away after realizing the keys were gone.

About 20 minutes later, Adkins approached a second person walking his dog. His genitals were exposed and he was carrying a metal object, prosecutors said, prompting the victim to call 911. Police arrived and saw Adkins’ exposed genitals, noting he was carrying a large kitchen lighter bent into an L shape.

While en route to the police station,  Adkins offered to orally copulate the officer in exchange for his freedom. At the police station, Adkins masturbated in front of the officer, police said.

Adkins will have to register as a sex offender as part of his sentence.
