Crunch Fitness announces it is closing Redwood City location

in Business/Community

Members of the Crunch Fitness gym in Redwood City will have to find a new place to work out after the company announced it is closing the location effective Jan. 28, 2018.

Officials for the gym at 515 Veterans Blvd. posted about the closure on Facebook on Friday, Dec. 15, along with the photo above.

“With heavy hearts, we would like to inform you that we are consolidating our Crunch locations in the San Francisco Bay Area,” the post stated. “As a result, this location will no longer be open for workouts, effective 1/28/2018. Thank you for your love and loyalty to Redwood City over the years. We couldn’t have strengthened our #NoJudgments community without you. For more information on transferring or cancelling memberships, please speak to our Membership Team.”

  1. All current Crunch members are welcome at Sequoia YMCA on Hudson. They will waive the normal join fee when you show your Crunch Membership card.

  2. If you attended my Tues. and Thurs. 10:15 Yoga classes at Crunch, I have the same time slots and format beginning Feb. 1 at the new, and beautiful, Studio Anthurium, 999 Edgewater Blvd., Unit E, Foster City. Come for a free Trial Class to check it out. Offer valid until 3.31.18.

  3. Dennis Nelson would “turn over in his grave” is he knew what his family did — just for greed — his tradition of have a gym at this location has come to an end. Thousands of gym members attended this Redwood City landmark of 52 years. More people live now in Redwood City — their is a need for this gym —- not a Tesla dealership. It’s devastating and tragic that the gym family is being torn apart — the Nelson family should have continued their Dad’s wishes.

    • Daniel, this is Lisa Nelson, Dennis’s daughter. I just came across your post, and I wanted to respond. You and I spoke on the phone when you were trying to organize a party when Crunch departed, and my family was touched. I’m not sure where you got your information, but your comments on January 26, 2018 are not based in truth. My elderly mother, my sister and I are offended by your assumptions and your mean-spirited accusations. Although you knew my father, you didn’t know him well, and you don’t know us at all. We will not defend the specifics of your words because your facts are very off-base, outrageous and impolite.

  4. The sign on Broadway says (Redwood City. Climate best by government test.)

The sign should be replaced with (Redwood City. One of the most corrupt cites in the Bay Area that can’t say no to developers money)

  5. Even though RWC crunch closed on 1-28-18 they are still pulling my membership fee from my checking account – and it is now March:(
