Former NFL player Wade Davis to attend Action Summit

in Business/Community

Former NFL player Wade Davis is set to be the keynote speaker at the Peninsula Conflict Resolution Center’s first 2-day Action Summit starting Jan. 12.

The Action Summit, set to take place at the College of San Mateo, aims to bring together community partners to encourage a deeper understanding of viewpoints and perspectives that are different from one’s own.

Through civil discourse, the Summit hopes to teach skills to both community partners and youth about how to promote understanding across barriers and work together to develop innovative strategies to better the community as a whole.

Davis, who played for the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks from 2000 to 2003, is now a writer and public speaker and educator on gender, race and orientation equality. In 2012, he came out as a gay man and spoke publicly about what it was like to be closeted in the NFL.

He will be among the notable speakers to cover a wide range of topics at the Action Summit, from gender equality, to engaging on social media, to race and violence in modern day America.

The first day of the Summit will also feature Patrice O’Neil, the CEO and filmmaker of the nationally acclaimed “Not In Our Town,” and also Andrew Thomas of the Sanford, Florida City Manager’s Office who will provide insights from the Trayvon Martin case; and Captain Chris Hsiung, who commands the Special Operations Division at the Mountain View Police Department and will discuss using of social media and other platforms to encourage engagement with the community.

The first day of the summit is geared towards community partners and the second day towards youth. The Summit is free for youth to attend, thanks to the generosity of corporate sponsors, donors, and registrants for the first, community partners’ session.
