Facebook’s recent changes to its algorithm won’t just make it more difficult for you to get breaking news reports from local media outlets, but also emergency alerts from public agencies such as the Redwood City Police Department.
The new Facebook algorithm gives preference to interactions between people and less to posts from businesses and brands. That change, according to RCPD, “will reduce our ability to reach YOU because our page posts will be ranked lower compared to other content, especially in times of an emergency or crisis.”
In response, RCPD is urging residents to follow its Twitter account @RedwoodCitypd for breaking news and alerts.
