The Whis-Purr Pet Rescue Adoption Center at 346 El Camino Real has completed a new dog training and agility space called Paws to Love Training & Event Center. It was opened for tours and also dedicated March 22 to the memory of San Matean Michele Daly. She managed the former San Mateo Pet Supply for many years at that location and passed away last August.
The opening night visitors got a chance to see some of the training techniques in action, as dogs went from simple directions like “sit” or “down” to more challenging ones, such as crawling through a tunnel or climbing up and down an A-framed structure.
Three days a week, one of the trainers, Celia Driscoll of Redwood City-based Love of Dogs Training, will be offering classes. She stresses that her emphasis is on “creating a balance between owner and dog.” For the opening event, Driscoll teamed up with a Taiwanese rescue dog named Gracie, in an agility demonstration that also demonstrated what a well-schooled, good doggie can do.
