A 23-year-old man who was arrested last month for stealing and crashing a yellow school bus into seven parked vehicles, a median fence, signal light pole and PG&E transformer in Redwood City was busted again early Sunday for allegedly stealing and crashing work trucks at a fence company in the city, according to police.
The latest incident occurred shortly after Miguel Santosmurillo, 23, was released from County Jail over the weekend under the new statewide zero bail schedule aimed at reducing jail population to limit the spread of COVID-19, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
Santosmurillo is back in jail on $1 million bail on new charges including commercial burglary, vehicle theft, felony vandalism and driving under the influence, according to the Redwood City Police Department. He pleaded not guilty to all charges on Monday, prosecutors said.
Police responded at 4:08 a.m. on Sunday to the area of Chestnut and Spring streets on a report of a vehicle stuck on the train tracks. They found an unoccupied Ford pick-up truck with the logo “All Fence Company” on its doors, and it was stuck on the concrete train-track curb barrier, police said.
“The vehicle’s engine was running and had been left in gear,” police said.
Officers then responded to the All Fence Company on Spring Street and learned someone had driven a work truck through the metal gate to the All Fence Company and damaged another truck. “The work truck was stuck on both a fence and metal pole,” police said.
An employee at the company confirmed that at least one other work truck had been stolen in addition to the two trucks that had already been recovered. Police would later find that truck about three hours later, when Palo Alto police found it at Gunn High School, where the truck had rammed a fence and became stuck on the baseball field.
Santosmurillo was located and apprehended near the stolen truck, police said. He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
Anyone that may have additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Redwood City Police Department at 650-780-7100 or the Redwood City Police Department’s Tip Line at 650-780-7107.
