Redwood City police are searching for a suspect in an attempted robbery in North Fair Oaks Sunday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
A 19-year-old woman was walking in the 200 block of 4th avenue at about 9:40 p.m. when the suspect approached her from behind, brandished a small knife, threatened her and demanded her car keys, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim managed to quickly flee into an apartment complex to call for help. The suspect fled the area on foot without any stolen property, police said.
San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies responded and couldn’t locate the suspect after a lengthy search, the sheriff’s office said.
He was described by the sheriff’s office as an Hispanic man, 18-20 years of age, 5-7, 170 pounds, wearing all black clothing and a black and white face covering.
The sheriff’s office is seeking to locate potential witnesses and surveillance video in the area.
