Firearms were seized by police in two separate incidents in Redwood City on Wednesday.

The first occurred about 4 p.m. when detectives with the Redwood City Street Crimes Suppression Team initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for expired registration in the 1100 block of Veterans Boulevard, police said.

The driver and sole occupant, 22-year-old Jesus Valencia Guerra, was arrested after detectives searched the vehicle and found an unregistered semi-automatic .40 caliber handgun and an extended magazine capable of holding 22 .40 caliber rounds, police said.

At about 9:50 p.m. the same evening, detectives in the Street Crimes Suppression Team contacted a group of juveniles in the 3200 block of Rolison Road, one of whom attempted to flee on foot. Detective searched where the 15-year-old had fled from and found discarded narcotics, a 9mm semi-automatic firearm and a magazine containing 15 rounds of live ammunition, police said. The teen was booked into the San Mateo County Youth Services Center.
