One killed, two hospitalized after tree limb falls in Burlingame park

A person was killed and two others hospitalized after a large tree limb fell on them as they were picnicking at Washington Park in Burlingame Saturday, city officials said.

“The San Mateo resident was struck by a roughly 60-foot limb that dropped suddenly from a large tree,” city officials posted to Facebook. “Two other people remain hospitalized with significant injuries from this accident.”

The identities of the victims were not immediately available. City officials said they were conducting a thorough investigation in the area of Washington Park near Carolan Avenue.

“We express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of the person who passed away and our wishes for a speedy recovery for the two people in the hospital,” city officials said.
