The COVID-19 pandemic has prompted Redwood City and the YMCA to pause progression on their joint project to build a new veterans memorial building/senior center and YMCA at Red Morton Community Park, according to the city.
On Thursday, the city announced the project has been temporarily halted “due to COVID-19 and the impact on the bond market, as well as being mindful of construction impacts while people are sheltering-in-place.”
“We will consider re-launching the bid process and project financing later in 2021,” the city said.
In December, City Council approved the project set to be constructed in two phases, with the city leading construction of the veterans building and senior center in the first phase, followed by the YMCA’s construction of its building in the second phase.
