Arrest in 2019 assault on clerk at 7-Eleven San Carlos

The suspect in an attack on an elderly 7-Eleven clerk in San Carlos last year was arrested in South San Francisco on Sunday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

Odell Sala, 30, of San Jose, was on the sheriff’s office’s most wanted list in connection with the assault that occurred at about 2 a.m. on Nov. 9, 2019, at the convenience store at 1180 Holly St. The 66-year-old clerk sustained a laceration and was transported to the hospital following the attack. Sala fled the scene before deputies responded, the sheriff’s office said.

After Sala was determined to the be the suspect, the sheriff’s office obtained a $125,000 felony arrest warrant for felony battery with serious injury and elder abuse.

On Sunday, South San Francisco police Officer Robert Roman contacted Sala sitting in a vehicle at the Walgreens at 399 El Camino Real in South City, leading to Sala’s arrest.
