A man was shot in the face in what victims described as a robbery attempt in front of a Redwood City motel early Wednesday, police said.
Just after 4 a.m., Redwood City police responded to a Shotspotter gunshot detection activation at the Days Inn Hotel at 2650 El Camino Real. At about the same time, Atherton police were alerted by the CHP about a gunshot victim being driven to the hospital by his friend, police said. Atherton police located the victim and his friend at Middlefield Road and Ringwood Avenue in Menlo Park. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening, police said.
The victim told police he and his friend were staying at the hotel and were near their vehicle, which was parked in front of their hotel room, when an unknown man approached them and demanded that the victim “empty is pockets,” police said. After the victim refused, the suspect shot him in the face and fled on foot. The victim described the suspect as a black man, about 5-9, 160 pounds wearing a blue shirt, police said.
Anyone that may have additional information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Redwood City Police Detective Ryan Kimber at 650-780-7138 or the Redwood City Police Department’s Tip Line at 650-780-7107.
