An inmate’s death at Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on Tuesday is under investigation.
At 2:10 p.m., San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies assigned to the jail discovered the inmate unresponsive during a security check on a housing pod, the sheriff’s office said.
Jail staff and Redwood City fire personnel responded and attempted medical treatment including CPR, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death. A preliminary investigation indicates a possible suicide.
The inmate’s identity will be withheld until family is notified about their death, deputies said.
