An inmate’s death at the Maguire Correctional Facility in Redwood City on Tuesday is under investigation.
During a security check on a housing pod just before 4 p.m., deputies discovered the inmate unresponsive, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office. Medical and fire department staff responded to attempt life-saving measures, but the inmate was pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates the inmate died of natural causes.
The inmate’s identity was being withheld until next of kin was notified of their death.
