in Community/Crime

The San Mateo Police Department will hold a driver sobriety checkpoint on E. 4th Avenue from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 18.

“Checkpoint locations are chosen based on a history of DUI collisions and arrests,” police said, adding, “Drivers charged with DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.”

The DUI checkpoint was funded thanks to a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
