A 34-year-old San Mateo man was arrested on suspicion of attempting to stab someone and run him over with a car at a San Carlos gas station on Sunday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to the 76 gas station at 906 Holly St. about 5:51 p.m. on a report of a battery and learned the victim, a 40-year-old man, and the suspect, Armando Mendoza, had been involved in a heated argument near their parked vehicles. The two know each other.
During the incident, Mendoza tried to stab the victim with a knife, threatened him with a hammer and then entered his vehicle and tried to drive it directly at him in an attempt to run him over, the sheriff’s office said.
The victim jumped out of the way of the vehicle and was not injured during the dispute. A witness identified Mendoza as the suspect at the scene. He was arrested without incident, the sheriff’s office said, and booked at the San Mateo County Jail for attempted murder.
