A 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grabbing a 16-year-old girl and attempting to “pull her away” in front of a Redwood City coffee shop on Friday.

Officers responded to Teaspoon Coffeebar at 2361 Broadway about 6:47 p.m. The girl was reportedly standing in front of the coffee shop when the suspect, identified as Brandon Yamagata, grabbed the girl’s arm with both hands and attempted to her pull her away, police said.

A bystander told Yamagata to leave the victim alone, but Yamagata followed the victim into the coffee shop and again grabbed her arm and also placed his arm around the small of her back and tried to pull her again, police said.  The bystander again intervened and told Yamagata to leave, which he finally did, police said.

Yamagata was detained a short distance away and was positively identified by the victim, police said.

He was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, annoying/molesting minor, and on a parole warrant.
