Shark bites swimmer at Half Moon Bay beach

A 35-year-old man swimming off of Grey Whale Cove State Beach in Half Moon Bay was bitten in the right leg by a great white shark Saturday morning, prompting closure of the beach, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The attack by the shark, described as being between six and eight feet in size, occurred at 9:15 a.m., the sheriff’s office.

The swimmer managed to make it to shore and medical aid was summoned. He was transported to Stanford Hospital for treatment, the sheriff’s office said.
