A 16-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with a shooting in Redwood City last week, police said.

On Thursday, July 29, police responded to the 1500 block of Gordon Street and spoke with the victim. The victim said he was checking on his parked car when he noticed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed. A person in the vehicle opened fire at least five times from a passenger window, narrowly missing the victim but striking his vehicle, police said.

“The suspect was known to the victim, and later positively identified by the victim,” police said.  “Officers located spent 9mm casings at the scene.”

Redwood City Street Crime Suppression Team detectives conducted surveillance at the suspect’s home, then spotted the teen walking in the area. The suspect was arrested without incident and, at the time, was found in possession of 9mm ammunition and a 9mm magazine, police said. The weapon remains outstanding.

The suspect was booked into the Hillcrest Youth Services Center for attempted murder.
