in Crime

A 21-year-old San Mateo man was arrested on suspicion of forcible rape, sodomy of a minor, having sex with a minor under 16, and obstructing and resisting an executive officer, following his alleged relationship with a 14-year-old, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office released Miguel Mendez-Marin’s identity and photo, believing he may have victimized other underage girls and asking anyone who has information to come forward.

Detectives said they began investigating in May and learned about allegations that included sexual intercourse with the minor and also on one occasion forcible rape. He is also accused of sodomizing her at her home on a separate occasion.

On Wednesday, when detectives attempted to arrest Mendez-Marin at his home, he resisted, fighting and causing moderate injuries to one of the detectives, the Sheriff’s Office said. He was eventually arrested and booked at the Maguire Correctional Facility.

Anyone with information about possible other victims are asked to contact Detective C. Serrano at (650) 363-4066 or email cserrano@smcgov.org.
