An automated license plate reader system (ALPR) helped deputies arrest a 42-year-old man in San Carlos early Saturday on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle and burglary tools.

At about 1:26 a.m., San Mateo County Sheriff’s deputies were alerted by the ALPR system to the presence of a vehicle that had been recently reported stolen, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies found the vehicle occupied by 42-year-old Mark Anthony Castro in the area of Holly Street and Industrial Road.

“A search of the vehicle revealed that Castro was in possession of altered keys that are commonly used to gain access to vehicles,” deputies said.

He was booked into the San Mateo County Jail. The vehicle’s owner responded to the scene to retake possession of it.
