Redwood City police arrest sex offender

Sex offender arrested on suspicion of attempting to commit lewd acts with minor

in Crime

Thomas Hemmenway, a 63-year-old registered sex offender, has been arrested on charges of contacting a minor with the intent to commit a sexual offense and arranging to meet a minor for a lewd or lascivious act, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

The alleged crimes were “committed in the presence of investigating detectives” amid a probe by the Redwood City Police Department’s Street Crimes Suppression Team, police said. No children were harmed, endangered or victimized during the course of the investigation, police said.

Hemmenway was booked into San Mateo County Jail on the above charges. Detectives said they’re reviewing electronic evidence seized during a search warrant of Hemmenway’s home to see if there is any other evidence of sexual crimes and/or other victims.

Because of his previous sex offender history, additional charges will be sought in the case, police said.

The Redwood City Police Department is asking the public to come forward with any information about possible additional victims. Anyone with information can contact Sergeant Jeff Clements at (650) 780-7142 or the Tip Line at (65) 780-7110.
