Family-friendly Disaster Preparedness Day set for Event Center

in Community

Community members are encouraged to attend a Disaster Preparedness Day event this Saturday at the San Mateo County Event Center.

The family-friendly event, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., features demonstrations on first aid and how to prepare a budget-friendly emergency kit. Local fire departments and Community Emergency Response Teams, better known as CERT, will also hold demonstrations. Vendors will be on hand.

“Kids can sit in a for-real helicopter, get up close with horses from search and rescue teams and meet firefighters,” County officials said.

Gates for the free event open at 10 a.m. Free parking and free hot dogs are included.

“Disaster preparedness is one of the things I am passionate about,” said San Mateo County Supervisor Carole Groom. “The more we can prepare and plan, the better we will all be.”

Access the event via the Saratoga Drive entrance to the Event Center, 1346 Saratoga Drive, San Mateo.
