It’s the vocal competition that inspired films like “Pitch Perfect” and it’s coming to a city near you. The 2023 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella will come to the Fox Theatre in Redwood City Sat., Feb 18 at 7 p.m.
Organizers said the family friendly event will be a Varsity Vocals ICCA competition among Northern California college a cappella groups that will vie for two top spots that will then progress to the West Semifinal. The greater worldwide competition is among 400 college groups at 50 events every spring.
“This competition is the inspiration behind the critically acclaimed films “Pitch Perfect,” “Pitch Perfect 2,” “Pitch Perfect 3,” and the subject of the TV show, “Sing It On,” produced by John Legend,” said competition organizers in a statement.
The 11 college groups competing Redwood City event, per organizers, are: California Golden Overtones from the University of California, Berkeley; Drawn to Scale A Cappella from the University of California, Berkeley; The Cleftomaniacs from the University of California, Davis; The Spokes from the University of California, Davis; The Afterglow from the University of California, Davis; The Liquid Hotplates from the University of California, Davis; Lounge Lizards A Cappella from the University of California, Davis; The pH Scale from Diablo Valley College; Cloud 9 from the University of California, Santa Cruz; Stanford Mixed Company from Stanford University; and The Stanford Mendicants from Stanford University.
