A gun buyback event is coming to South San Francisco on Saturday, May 6.
The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the North County Courthouse parking lot located at 1050 Mission Road, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
At the buyback, any individual can surrender weapons, no questions asked, and may receive $50 cash for non-functioning firearms, $100 cash for handguns, shotguns or rifles, and $200 cash for assault weapons as classified in the State of California. “Ghost guns” will also be accepted for $200.
To date, the San Mateo County Gun Buyback Program has held six events, collecting a total of 2,359 firearms so far. The San Mateo County Board of Supervisors approved a grant of up to $208,000 in Measure K Reserves to fund the series of gun buybacks, which also received $100,000 from the Sheriff’s Office and $67,000 raised by Citizens for a San Mateo County Gun Buy Back, a local community group. Two events are scheduled each year through 2023.
