While the pandemic-Grinch may have tried to steal the holidays, it’s no match for the limitless seasonal cheer generated by the 2020 Hometown Holidays on Parade. And although Downtown Business Group organizers say this year’s festivities—which are set for Saturday, Dec. 19 from 3-6 p.m. in downtown Redwood City—will be different since vendors will not participate, there’s still plenty of jolly good fun in store for everyone.
“We have altered this year’s annual holiday celebration by creating a venue that encourages community spirit, while protecting loved ones,” stated parade organizers.
Community members are invited to register for the parade and then decorate their cars so that they can participate in it. The parade’s starting point and directions will be emailed to participants upon completion of their registration. Those who decorate their cars will be entered to win a first, second or third place prize.
Word from the North Pole elves is that there will be a prime opportunity for a Santa Claus sighting at Courthouse Square, as well as treat giveaways, holiday music and decorations and takeout available from downtown eateries.
“This year’s festive event promises to make socially distancing a jolly experience,” said organizers on the event page.
Hometown Holidays’ presenting sponsors this year are the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Redwood City Downtown Business Group. The Group’s 2020 team includes: Sue Lehr Mitchell, chair; Regina Van Brunt, administrative support; Perry Thorwaldson, Thor Audio Solutions; Nova Mitchell, web and photos; and the Redwood City Police Department.
