On Tuesday, San Mateo Councilmember Joe Goethals helped Samaritan House cut the ribbon on its newly expanded and reopened Kids Closet, a store environment where low-income families can shop for clothing (for infants to teens), diapers and school supplies for free.
Located at 4015 Pacific Blvd. in San Mateo, Kids Closet’s expanded program includes a drive-thru where community members can pick up bagged bundles of age appropriate clothing while remaining COVID-safe.
Last year alone, Kids Closet distributed more than 43,000 pieces of clothing and shoes, as well as more than 85,000 diapers for young children in need.
“Kids Closet is expanding to meet the growing need in San Mateo County. We serve thousands of low-income families each year, and Kids Closet is one of our many support programs that help clients remain an active, successful part of our community. The City of San Mateo has been instrumental in welcoming the new facility, which will allow us to offer a higher volume of service for these families in need,” said Samaritan House CEO Bart Charlow.
Samaritan House helps lead the fight against poverty in San Mateo County. Donations of new or gently used children’s clothing for Kids Closet will resume in 2021. To explore more immediate ways to support the organization’s work during the holiday season and beyond, click here.
