Multiple buses transporting Apple and Google workers were attacked, possibly by pellet gun bullets, while traveling down Interstate Highway 280 on the Peninsula on Tuesday, according to a California Highway Patrol official.
“We’re not certain what caused the damage at this time, but we’re not ruling anything out,” CHP Officer Art Montiel said.
Five buses, some headed north and others south during the morning and evening commutes, were damaged on I-280 between state Highway 84 and state Highway 85, Montiel said. Four buses carried Apple workers and the fifth Google workers.
None of the buses were marked so “there’s no indication that they’re being targeted,” Montiel said.
Mashable said it verified an Apple company email that stated coaches would be rerouted due to “recent incidents of broken windows along the commute route, specifically on highway 280.” The route change “could mean an additional 30 to 40 minutes of commute time in each direction for some riders,” the email explained.
