A motorcyclist was killed in a multi-car crash on U.S. Highway 101 near Whipple Avenue in Redwood City about 1:50 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
The motorcyclist, identified as Edwin Sandoval, 37, of Hayward, was traveling northbound and was splitting lanes at a high rate of speed when his Harley Davidson came into contact with the right rear of a GMC Van, CHP said. The impact pushed the Harley into another lane, where it collided with a Honda and ejected the motorcyclist, who was consequently struck by a Toyota.
Sandoval was pronounced dead at the scene after attempts by responding officers to revive him, CHP said. It appears alcohol and/or drugs may be a factor in this collision, CHP said.
The crash closed all lanes for under an hour. CHP had all lanes cleared at 5:21 a.m.
