A parolee was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of setting off fireworks in unincorporated Redwood City, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 3 a.m., deputies observed fireworks being set off in the area of Devonshire and Dumbarton avenues, the Sheriff’s Office said. As they approached the area, they saw a suspect named Mario Ventura walking away.
During a parole search, deputies found Ventura, 49, of Menlo Park, to be in possession of narcotics, narcotics paraphernalia and a “fully discharged ‘ghost’ roman candle-style firework,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Ventura was subsequently arrested on drug-related charges along with possession of tear gas by a felon and possession and discharging of fireworks.
