Burlingame residents can no longer use potable water to irrigate their outdoor plants or grass during and within 24 hours of rainfall, and hotels and motels must provide guests with the option of choosing not to have towels and linens laundered daily, as part of a new city ordinance aiming to reduce water waste.
The Wasteful Water Use Restrictions Ordinance adopted by City Council last month also prohibits the use of a hose without a positive shut-off nozzle; bans using potable water in water fountains and also prohibits using water through broken or defective plumbing, sprinklers, watering or irrigation systems, the city said.
Failure to comply could lead to fines.
