A Redwood City man was recently arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting his stepdaughter for the course of five years without her mother’s knowledge, authorities said.
Heriberto Rosaslugo, 45, is charged with continuous sexual abuse of a child in connection with the allegations involving his stepdaughter, who has been living with him since her mother was deported, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Detectives learned about the allegations on Sept. 11, after the 13-year-old texted her friend around midnight and reported what her stepfather was doing, according to prosecutors. The teen’s friend immediately told her parents, who drove to the victim’s home to pick her up, then drove to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office to report the abuse.
In a pretext call, Rosaslugo admitted to the abuse, said prosecutors, adding that the abuse included fondling and attempted sodomy on a regular basis, about one or two times a month.
Rosaslugo was arrested without incident at his home on Oakside Avenue and was later booked at the Maguire Correctional Facility, where his bail is set at $300,000. On Wednesday, he pleaded not guilty to the charges against him. He remains in custody and is set to appear for a preliminary hearing on the charges on Sept. 28.
