Fifty-eight acres of vegetation were recently treated at Wunderlich Park as part of an ongoing effort to reduce wildfire risks and improve forest health.
“Forest Health work at Wunderlich Park has finished for the season,” San Mateo County Parks recently announced. “Crews have worked to selectively thin overdense stands of trees and shrubs along the southern border of the park.”
The work began a three-year project to improve forest health in 218 acres of Huddart Park and 184 acres of Wunderlich Park. The project is being funded by a portion of $5.3 million in Cal Fire grants to fund a regional effort.
San Mateo County Parks commended progress at Wunderlich Park, which faced limitations posed by COVID, which meant smaller crews and less equipment, and by resources being diverted to fight fires throughout the state and pauses due to erratic weather.
The County offered before-and-after photos exhibiting its work.
Now that forest health work has finished for the season, Skyline Trail and Alambique Trail are now open, officials said.
