A pedestrian suffered major injuries after being struck and injured by a vehicle driven by an intoxicated man in San Carlos on Tuesday, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to Industrial Road and Brandon Road about 1:35 p.m. on a report of a major accident and located the injured victim, who was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The driver, 26-year-old Anthony Gutierrez, was contacted at the scene.
“Deputies immediately observed Gutierrez displaying symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Gutierrez failed multiple field sobriety tests on scene and was subsequently placed under arrest for [felony driving under the influence].”
Gutierrez was subsequently booked into the San Mateo County Jail without incident.
