The Community Foundation of San Carlos is coordinating with the Bay Area United Against Hate movement to host a Poetry Slam from 5-6 p.m. Fri., Nov. 19 at the Devil’s Canyon Brewing Company in San Carlos. Doors open at 4 p.m. for the family-friendly event and food trucks and beverages will be available. The Poetry Slam will be followed by live music at 6 p.m.
The organization is calling for community members of all ages to submit entries sharing their personal experiences re: facing/combating hate and proposing how we can become more united in love. Participants should submit their entries by Tues., Nov. 9 and can register on the Community Foundation of San Carlos’ website or by emailing chris@sancarloscf.org.
“When the community stands united against hate, we will continue to cultivate a diverse and vibrant community that will only become more inclusive and equitable for all,” said foundation board member Chris Tran.
Solo poems entered into the Poetry Slam are required to be the poet’s own creation and group poems should feature the work’s primary author, said the foundation. Each poem will be allotted a three minute time period to be read; memorization is not required.
Winners will be determined by audience applause and $1,500 will be donated to their choice of 501(c)3 nonprofits working for justice and equity.
