Redwood City will continue the closure of its City Hall to in-person services at least through the end of this month due to the ongoing surge in COVID-19 cases, the city announced today.
City libraries will continue in-person hours allowing for no more than 25 percent occupation and other safety practices.
The Parks, Recreation and Community Services’ indoor gym will continue to be closed through the end of January; its lunch programs have been moved outdoors or converted to pick up services; and its classes and programs will continue with current indoor masking requirements and small group enrollments.
City officials also say residents should inspect longer wait times for Building and Fire Inspection requests, during which high-priority inspections may take precedence due to staffing impacts caused by COVID-19.
The safety measures are occurring in response to impacts of the fast-spreading omicron variant of the virus. One of every nine people in San Mateo County have tested positive, and COVID-19 hospitalizations in the County saw a 440 percent increase from two weeks ago, according to city officials.
“January is going to be a tough month,” said City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz. “This is an extraordinarily challenging time for our whole community. We believe these steps will help us continue to provide services during this surge.”
