San Mateo police investigate death of man reported to have drowned near Bay Trail

San Mateo police are investigating the death of man reported to have drowned near the Bay Trail early Thursday.

Officers responded to the trail at Harbor View Park at 1:39 a.m. on a report of a “drowned male.” Officers located the man, a 28-year-old San Mateo resident, and rendered first aid. The man was transported to a local hospital “where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased,” police said.

Further details on the incident, including the victim’s name, weren’t immediately available. Police said updates in the ongoing investigation would be provided “as they become available.”

“The San Mateo Police Department began a comprehensive investigation to ensure that this case is fully investigated,” police said.
