A man arrested on suspicion of stabbing another passenger after a fight on a SamTrans bus in San Carlos last week is scheduled to enter his court plea on Thursday.
James David Taylor, a transient from San Francisco, is facing mutliple charges in connection with the attack that occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on Feb. 15 as the bus was traveling on El Camino Real near Belmont Avenue, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.
Taylor and the 50-year-old victim of the stabbing didn’t know each other, but an argument broke out between the two for an unclear reason. During the argument, Taylor pushed or struck the other passenger, prosecutors say. The passenger then stood up and punched Taylor multiple times in the face before other passengers pulled them apart. Taylor then walked to the front of the bus, but three minutes later he allegedly returned with an 8.5-inch knife and threatened to kill the 50-year-old passenger. Taylor then “swung the knife at the victim, stabbing him at least once in the arm,” before passengers threw him off the bus and called 911, prosecutors said.
Deputies arrived and arrested Taylor, who had multiple bruises to his face from the fight. The victim was transported to a hospital for injuries that were not considered life threatening.
