A Redwood City man arrested on rape charges Sunday had allegedly abused his girlfriend on multiple occasions, according to San Mateo County prosecutors.
Michael Perez-Ramirez, 29, is set to enter his plea on multiple charges on Friday. His arrest Sunday came after his girlfriend of eight months came forward to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office about a recent incident of abuse, prosecutors said. On Feb. 26, the victim says she got into an argument witih Perez-Ramirez over her going to a party, and when she started to leave Perez-Ramirez “angrily pulled her back and beat her, forcibly strangled her” and then raped her, prosecutors said.
The victim also reported that she’d been strangled and beaten by Perez-Ramirez on two ocassions in July.
On Tuesday, Perez-Ramirez was assigned a public defender. His bail was set at $1 million and he remains in custody, according to prosecutors.
