A 34-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of threatening to assault a person who accused her of shoplifting in San Carlos, and also of allegedly slapping a sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a business in the 1000 block of El Camino Realy at about 2:48 p.m. and were told that Montes had raised a baseball bat at a female victim and threatened to strike her after being confronted about possible shoplifting, the Sheriff’s Office said. Montes fled the scene before deputies arrived, but not before shattering the glass door to the business.
Deputies soon located Montes walking on a nearby street and while detaining her, she “struck a deputy in the face with her hand,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Montes was arrested on suspicion of assualt with a deadly weapon, felony vandalism and for possession of drug paraphernalia and methamphetamine.
She was transported and booked into the San Mateo County Jail.
