Caltrain, SamTrans and BART no longer require, but recommend, the wearing of masks on their systems.
They are among the transit systems throughout the nation, along with airports and airlines, that are dropping their mask requirements after a Florida judge struck down the federal mask mandate for public transit. On Wednesday, the California Department of Public Health terminated its statewide order requiring masks on transit and is now strongly recommending people wear masks on transit.
“We will continue to monitor any future federal, state or local directives,” stated Caltrain.
At its next meeting April 28, the BART Board of Directors may go against the grain and will consider a proposal to continue to require masks in the BART system, the transit agency said.
