The 240-unit Navigation Center in Redwood City is slated to open later this month, launching a modern approach to providing housing and wraparound services to homeless community members.
Called the first multi-story, prefabricated modular shelter project in the nation, the $57 million Navigation Center will locate at 275 Blomquist St. and will feature pre-fabricated sleeping units, many with private bathrooms, units for couples to stay together, on-site medical and dental services, large dining and community halls, pet-friendly policies, dog run and animal care classes and an extensive array of support services, according to the County.
Officials say the project is unique for a shelter in that it enables couples to stay together and pet owners to bring their animals with them.
“The center will be a critical tool in moving people from homelessness into permanent housing,” officials said. “The County’s goal is to make homelessness ‘rare, brief and one-time’ by building the housing and providing the support services necessary.”
A ribbon-cutting is planned at the site on Tuesday.
