The volunteer group that plants, cares and advocates for trees to improve Redwood City’s quality of life rose to the challenge in 2017.
To commemorate the city’s sesquicentennial this year, the nonprofit CityTrees set a goal to plant 150 trees. It accomplished that goal on Saturday, Nov. 18, CityTrees President Simms Duncan announced during Monday’s city council meeting.
The trees were planted at Roosevelt Elementary School, Kennedy Middle School, the Port of Redwood City, various parks and in Redwood Shores, Duncan said.
“We couldn’t do a fraction of what we did without the terrific partnership with the Redwood City Public Works staff,” he said.
In 17 years, the nonprofit has planted 3,000 trees in Redwood City. In addition to planting, the group cares for the trees and conducts public advocacy to inform residents on the importance of trees.
“Many more great things are in store for 2018,” Simms said.
