The Redwood City Fire Department is reminding local residents that setting off fireworks and discharging firearms are illegal in Redwood City and San Carlos — even if it’s New Year’s Eve.
“During these abnormally dry conditions, the illegal use of fireworks puts the community at greater risk of fire than normal,” the department stated publicly. “A small spark can cause major injuries and property damage.”
Local police use technology such as Shotspotter to monitor firearm discharges and “will prosecute those found doing this illegal activity,” fire officials added.
