A Go Fund Me fundraiser currently underway seeks to raise money for new library books for Redwood City’s Hoover Community School. All donations will support purchasing books “from reputable book companies, including ones that specialize in authentic Spanish language books,” according to fund organizer Diane Ocon.
Located on Charter Street in Redwood City, Hoover serves more than 700 students in Pre-K through 8th grade, many of whom are English learners from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. The school was honored with the 2019 Excellence in Education and Equity Award from the San Mateo County School Board Association for its work creating an integrated program aimed at closing opportunity gaps for students.
According to Ocon, Hoover “is a very special school community where teachers, students and families all work together to give their kids a strong social-emotional and academic foundation,” adding that “they deserve to have brand new library books in all genres, just like other schools in the district.”
Currently, the Go Fund Me goal is set at $5,000 for the purchase of library books in English and Spanish, with more than $1,500 donated as of this writing. Click here to contribute to the online fundraiser.
