San Mateo County offers residents backyard compost basics course

in Community

A free online workshop will instruct San Mateo County residents on the basics of backyard hot pile composting, and by attending they will qualify for a composting bin and discounted supplies.

The County’s Office of Sustainability is hosting the “Sustainability Academy” on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 10 a.m. to noon.

Local composting expert Najiha Al Asmar will provide a short lecture and live demonstrations via Zoom.

“If you don’t have access to a backyard, but would still like to compost, you’re in luck! Najiha will also cover how to join the Fresh Approach Community Compost Hub,” organizers said. “This is a great option to get involved in composting at a community level.”
