The search continues for a 12-year-old boy who was swept into the ocean Monday afternoon at Cowell Ranch State Beach near Half Moon Bay, according to Cal Fire.

Crews were dispatched to the beach at around 2:45 p.m. after witnesses said a wave dragged an adult and two children from the beach into the ocean,  according to Cal Fire. The father and his 8-year-old were “beaten up by waves and pushed back to shore,” officials said. Tragically, the 12-year-old, identified by KTVU as Arunay Pruthi of Fremont, was pulled under water, carried about 100 yards offshore and remains missing.

Cal Fire, the US Coast Guard and CHP searched throughout the afternoon and evening, using boasts and a helicopter, to no avail. The search was eventually called off for the night and was set to resume at daylight Tuesday morning, according to KTVU.
