The family of a 12-year-old Fremont boy who remains missing after being swept out to sea at Cowell Ranch State Beach in Half Moon Bay on Monday is reaching out to the community for help in continuing the search.

Arunay Pruthi was sitting at the beach with his father and 8-year-old brother when a creeper wave swept them into the ocean at 2:45 p.m on Monday. Arunay’s dad Tarun and brother were beaten up by waves and pushed back to shore, but Arunay was pulled farther out. The U.S. Coast Guard, Cal Fire, and the CHP searched for the boy with help from boasts and a helicopter to no avail. While authorities have since reportedly suspended the search, family and supporters haven’t given up.

“Family and friends will continue the search and are coordinating with local fishermen, chopper, boat and drone operators, and hundreds of volunteers in their efforts to locate Arunay,” according to a Facebook page established Tuesday to assist in the search.

A GoFundMe page was also set up to raise funds for the search effort. The family pledges to donate any unused funds to charity.
